Driver of the Year Award

The Driver of the Year Award was created in 2004. In order to be eligible for the Team Continental Driver of the Year award you must win a Conference/SCCA regional, divisional or national championship in that year and be a member of Team Continental. Selection procedure: The list of Conference/SCCA champions that raced under the Team Continental banner will be distributed with the board member election ballots. The membership will then select the Driver of the Year and the results will be announced at the annual banquet. The Driver of the Year trophy shall be the first trophy of rank listed in the perpetual trophy order per the By-Laws. If no driver from TC wins a Conference/SCCA regional, divisional or national championship in any given year, the award will not be issued for that year.

Victory Cup

The Victory Cup was first awarded in 1963, making it one of the older of the TC perpetual trophies. The Victory Cup is awarded to a member on the basis of the most accumulated points. Drivers should submit their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place results to the Trophy Committee Chair. Each 1st place is worth 5 points, each 2nd place 3 points, and each 3rd place 1 point. All race finishes during the year can be submitted. The points are totaled and the driver with the most points is awarded the Victory Cup.

Competitor’s Trophy

This trophy was first awarded in 1963.  This is another of the older trophies awarded by Team Continental. This is awarded to a member on the basis of the most races started in any one racing season, with no limit as to the amount of races entered in any one weekend. Drivers are supposed to submit a list of races started to the Trophy Committee Chair who then figures out which of the TC drivers started the most races that year.

George Brockbank Memorial Trophy

The George Brockbank Memorial trophy is awarded annually in memory of one of our members who died while racing. In 1975 George had a massive heart attack at the wheel of his Datsun Sedan during a race at Seattle International Raceway. George was a late comer to the sport and it was the fulfillment of a life long dream to have attained his senior license. He built his own car and drove well throughout his Novice program. He was always upbeat and had a broad grin for everyone at the track. George was not a man of great wealth and was blind in one eye, yet he persevered and raised his family, founded his own business and by any measure succeeded in life. His accomplishment and the spirit in which this award is given is to honor the tenacity it took to overcome adversity and become a race driver. He was always so grateful to those that helped him succeed in his goal. The enthusiasm and spirit he brought to the track is still missed today by those that knew him. A great man and a loyal member of Team Continental.

This is awarded to the member beginning the season as a novice who improves the most. They should obtain their senior license by end of current season to qualify for this award.

Hard Luck Trophy

This is awarded to the member who has had the most equipment misfortune during the past racing season. The trophy dates to 1967, and is a long, sad story of seasons of equipment failures.  This is a trophy you don’t want to get, both because you will have spent a lot of money on failed parts, but also because the trophy itself is a broken 4 cylinder engine block with a rod and piston sticking out of it.

Gary Pazina Memorial Award

This award honors the member who contributes the most as a Driver Training Worker, and is chosen by the  Driving Master.

The award was created in 1988, following the death of worker and racing enthusiast Gary Pazina.  Gary, known to his friends as “Pazoots” died in 1988, at the fairly young age of 45. Scott Haun, a good friend of Gary’s, and fellow race worker says, “Zoots started working corners ‘81 or ‘82. Like all things Zoots did in life he excelled at it. One of the best of the best. When Zoots had a thought of how to do something, track-wise or life, it was time to shut up and listen. He was like a big brother/second dad to me. Bunky (Craig Hudson) and he were closer than two brothers.”

Scott continues, “The award was started by then Driving Master Donna Battin. The first recipient was Gary’s life partner Jana Toye.”
